You will want to make these SIMPLE steps a part of your daily practice to meet your goals. Remember: You have to be organized to run a successful creative business.

PROPERLY SETTING GOALS IS FUNDAMENTAL TO YOUR SUCCESS- because in business you have constant deadlines.

set clear goals in your business with project and task deadlines

The full video, audio training and the 10 steps printable card deck is available in the link below.

Here's the basics to start with:

When setting your goals, be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

This will not only provide clarity to your vision but also keep you motivated & accountable as you work towards turning your business goals into reality with cash coming in on a regular basis.

QUICK TIP:

Speaking from personal experience, when I try to do multiple task at the same time, I often find that I fail. I either focus too much on one task & I don't accomplish it to the best of my ability (because some of my head-space is semi-focused on the other task).

There have been countless studies demonstrating just how impossible multi-tasking can be.

Remember: Getting focused on your clear goals are the foundation of a successful business strategy.

If you're a pen to paper person, like me, then the 10 STEPS INDEX CARD WORKSHEETS (below) makes your deadlines and goals super clear & reminds you of the detailed steps you need to take to make the right decisions in your business.

This is how you set clear deadlines in your physical product based business & back into a SCHEDULE YOU'VE CREATED to assign a specific date of completion for each of your PROJECTS, then TASKS.

I hope by taking this pen to paper action, you will also stay focused on developing products that can be meaningful to your business VS designing on a whim... which many of us creatives are guilty of :(

project deadline worksheet for product based businesses

The full video, audio training and this 10 steps printable card deck is available in the link above.

I walk you through this exercise on the video/audio training. Here's a quick overview:

STEP 1:

Create an INDEX CARD for each of your most pressing PROJECTS. (see the example above)

  • Give your project a TITLE.

  • An easy way to narrow in on the projects that are most important for you to accomplish is by evaluating your ROI (return on investment).

  • For example: Ask yourself, Is the time you are about to spend on this project going to grow your business? Will this project move your business forward? Will the time you take on this project ignite your creativity & help you to design really cool products?

  • Create a brief description of the project & hone in on what's most important for you to focus on.

STEP 2:

Outline detailed TASKS, in the order they need to occur, so you can complete this PROJECT.

  • Keep the tasks within the project to no more than 5 key points of accomplishment.

  • See the example worksheet above.

  • Essentially you are "Task Stacking". Task Stacking is combining tasks in an intentional way of batching the things you need to most accomplish so that you don't have to repeat your efforts.

  • What order & combo of tasks will you set that fuels momentum & allows you to accomplish your tasks?

  • Set practical steps you can take with "single tasks" in order to become more productive & efficient.

STEP 3:

Set deadlines.

  • Your overall project will have a deadline. Set that deadline first.

  • Back into the smaller deadlines within this project by assigning completion dates to each of your 5 tasks.

  • Deadline are useless to set if you are going to ignore them. Many people miss deadlines because they struggle to start in the first place.

  • If a task feels too daunting or overwhelming, or you subconsciously dread the amount of mental effort and energy you will have to spend on it, you may put off working on it for as long as possible. So, really think about the Projects & Tasks that you are willing to take to completion.

  • Keep focused, allow enough time, remove distractions and be sure you don't miss a deadline simply because you forgot about it.

NOTE:

Realistically, you will be managing several projects with multiple tasks all at once. That's what you signed up for when you became a creative entrepreneur. But I know, the mere thought of juggling so many important duties can be a source of anxiety for many product-based business owners.

The good news is, there are simple mindset & work ethic strategies for you to manage & track multiple projects at the same time.

Keeping it real simple.... Here you go:

PLAN BEFORE STARTING ANYTHING

  • When you manage multiple projects (and you will!), not much should be left to chance. It is important to create a successful PROJECT & TASK PLAN.

  • You must set reasonable expectations for yourself (or your small team) in order to be successful on all fronts.

  • You will be exhausting your mental capabilities while going back and forth between different tasks in your product-based business. So, you must incorporate some break periods within your projects where the workload is minimal. Maybe, your breaks are a time to doodle, sketch, or brainstorm new creative ideas. This is a mind break many of us need to avoid becoming overwhelmed.

USE A VISUAL TOOL WHEN TAKING ON PROJECTS

  • In this blog post I have suggested a super simple index card as your visual reminder.

  • Now that you have reviewed this simple tool, create a specific tool that works best for you. Make it simple & intuitive.

  • This should be a part of your weekly exercise as a new creative entrepreneurs that finds yourself wanting to build a product-based business.

WORK ON STAYING FOCUSED ON THE PROJECT

  • While you balance multiple projects at once, you are bound to give less attention to the task you are currently occupied with. In order to become an effective product-based business owner, you must stay focused on the task at hand.

  • One way we discussed in this blog of achieving this is to assign a specific deadlines to each project according to their priority. This way, you can ensure that your attention remains undivided.

Working on multiple projects at the same time requires extreme dedication and skills.

The market is becoming increasingly competitive day by day and even the slightest edge over your competitors can make your small business more appealing to your customers.
